Oregon Football gave fans an early Christmas Present on Sunday night, with the retention of Defensive Coordinator Jim Leavitt.

On Sunday night Bruce Feldman reported that Oregon Defensive Coordinator Jim Leavitt will remain with Ducks. This is a big shot in the arm for Oregon Football and should provide a less shaky foundation on the ever important recruiting front that has an early signing period beginning in a few days. Leavitt used his infectious personality on and off the field this season to help Oregon tighten down the Defense that was very loose last year.

Oregon went from 102nd to 32nd shutting down teams throughout the season that included an impressive win over in-state rival Oregon State. Despite not showing up Offensively in the Las Vegas Bowl vs Boise State, the Ducks Defense had two interceptions for touchdowns in a 30-second span in the second quarter to take back momentum before the end of the first half. Oregon would lose the game and finish the season at 7-5, better than the 4-8 season a year ago.

Oregon Football fans have enjoyed having Leavitt this past season, from his love of Pepsi to his presence on Twitter. The new deal will keep him in Eugene through the 2021 season and pay him close to $2 Million a season. The Ducks did a good job of getting key Coaches in place after Willie Taggart left for Florida State.

I am excited for 2018. After watching Jalen Jelks and Troy Dye this season under Leavitt’s leadership, next year will be even better. It should also help to solidify the Defensive Recruiting Class for 2018.
