Oregon Football Head Coach Mario Cristobal has brought in a top recruiter to fill a Defensive Assistant Coach position.

Following the departure of Willie Taggart, several Oregon Assistants also announced they were departing to follow him to Florida State. On Thursday, Oregon announced they have started to fill in the holes.

Donte Wiliams has been named Outside Linebackers Coach and will join Jim Leavitt on Defense. Williams is a solid recruiter and played a key role in turning around the San Jose State Spartans in 2014. Under his work, the Defense moved up 71 spots in the NCAA Rankings. Williams has also been named a Top 10 Recruiter.

Williams has spent time at several schools in the Pac-12 Conference. He spent two seasons at Washington as a Graduate Assistant helping coach Cornerbacks and Linebackers. He has also worked with Nevada, Los Angeles Harbor College, and El Camino College. He graduated from Idaho State as Team Captain in 2006.

In 2017, Jim Leavitt shifted the Oregon Defense and helped make immediate improvements. Troy Dye and Jalen Jelks made early impacts in games. Jelks opened the Pac-12 season against Arizona State with 9 tackles and 3 sacks in the loss.

Throughout the season Freshman Thomas Graham saw action and was picked on early. He was able to show his athleticism making key plays to get the ball back to the Ducks Offense.

Donte Williams brings with him experience as well as a big emphasis as a solid recruiter, an area that Cristobal considers an important piece of the Oregon Football Future.
