Sabrina Ionescu Sends Game To Overtime, But Oregon Ducks Fall To Oregon State
The Oregon Ducks took the game to Overtime, but momentum fell to Oregon State and their 14th straight win in the series 85-79.
It is called the Civil War for a reason. The game has not meant as much over the last thirty years. The last time that Oregon and Oregon State met as ranked opponents was the 1981 season, but Friday night in Corvallis meant a ton for the home team.
Oregon State jumped out to an early lead, led by eight first-quarter three-point shots. For the game, the Beavers took 26 and made half of them hitting 50 percent from beyond the arc. Prior to the game, it was announced that Oregon Senior Lexi Bando would miss time with a leg injury. She was seen on the sidelines in a boot.
Without their Star Three-point threat, Oregon struggled to find their way in the first half down by as much as 12 before the Defense kicked in to hold the Beavers scoreless and allowed the Ducks to cut the deficit to 6 points before halftime.
The Oregon Ducks chipped away in the second, third, and fourth quarters, winning each and with under 10 seconds to go Sabrina Ionescu hit a three-point shot to tie the game and send it to Overtime. Oregon State’s experience in the extra period along with a key Oregon turnover gave the Beavers the win.
It was the Oregon Ducks first Pac-12 loss of the season. Sabrina Ionescu played lights out with a career-high 35 points. Ruthy Hebard had 24. Oregon was outrebounded 40 to 37 and that was the difference.
