Oregon Ducks Held Scoreless In Final Minutes, Lose vs Stanford Cardinal
The Oregon Ducks Women’s Basketball team dropped their first home game of the season vs Stanford.
First place in the Pac-12 Conference is now a two-team race. Stanford shot 47 percent and held the Oregon Ducks to 40 percent shooting. The game came down to the final minutes but Brittany McPhee helped the Cardinal to the win scoring 31 of her 33 points in the second half. The Ducks had no answer for McPhee who put up a career-high against the Ducks.
The Cardinal finished the game on an 11-0 run forcing 4 Oregon turnovers. The Ducks had 15 turnovers in the deciding factor in the game that turned into 21 points for Stanford. Sabrina Ionescu and Ruthy Hebard led the team in scoring with 22 and 16 points respectively. Oregon shot just 25 percent from the floor in the fourth quarter in their first loss at Matthew Knight Arena this season.
Stanford’s Defense held Oregon without a field goal for the last five minutes of the game. The win for Stanford has them tied with Oregon at the top of the Pac-12. The game also saw five lead changes. The win gives the Cardinal the tiebreaker over the Ducks for the regular season and despite being ranked 24th, the Cardinal may see Oregon again in the Pac-12 Tournament.
The Oregon Ducks have six games remaining in the Pac-12 Regular season starting with a road trip this week to the Washington Schools before their final two games at Matthew Knight Arena and a final road trip to Arizona before the Pac-12 Tournament.
