The Oregon Ducks Softball team lost their first game of the season vs Ole Miss on Saturday.

Oregon Pitcher Megan Kleist picked up her first loss but threw the best game of the season in a 1-0 loss to Ole Miss. Kleist threw 8 1/3 innings giving up just 3 hits and a run. She struck out 16. The Oregon Offense was kept off balance for the game by solid pitching by the opposition.

Ole Miss Starter Kaitlin Lee held Oregon to just three runners getting to second base in the game and a .133 batting average. The Runnin’ Rebels had 27 putouts with Lee leading the way with 8 assists. It was the first time this season the Oregon Offense was shut down this season.

Jenna Lilley and Shannon Rhodes collected the four combined hits by the Oregon Ducks with two apiece. Everyone else in the Ducks lineup struggled at the plate or walked to first base, but the team was unable to get the run manufacturing machine going as they did the first eight games of the season.

Unlike their previous outings, Oregon was unable to do anything with two outs hitting just .100 when it needed to make the most of the situation. The Ducks also had 11 flyball outs in the game.

The Oregon Ducks next head to the Mary Nutter Classic and take on Oklahoma and Texas A&M in a Friday Doubleheader. Oregon takes on the Japan National Team on Saturday in an intriguing matchup.
