Sabrina Ionescu Leads Oregon Ducks Past UCLA Bruins In Overtime

The Oregon Ducks needed Overtime for the second straight game beating the UCLA Bruins 101-94.

UCLA won the opening tip, but Maite Cazorla scored the first basket of the game with a three-pointer. Cazorla and Sabally continued to add to the Ducks total for an early 9-2 lead over the Bruins. Ruthy Hebard added her 31st consecutive field goal after a UCLA foul. Oregon led by 10 after the first quarter 31-21.

Maite Cazorla continued to hit shots into the second quarter with a field goal followed by a three that forced a UCLA timeout. The Bruins did their best to keep up with Oregon. The Ducks led 45-32 with just under 4 minutes left in the 2nd Quarter. Oregon and 11 assists with the Bruins pushing the ball 8 times.

Ruthy Hebard would see her consecutive field goals made streak end at 33 with just under 2 minutes left in the first half. Oregon went into the locker room with a 57-41 lead.

Maite Cazorla scored her 1000th career point to start the 3rd Quarter joining Sabrina Ionescu and Ruthy Hebard on the Oregon Roster. Midway through the third quarter, Cazorla and Sabally have put up 42 combined points thanks in part to hitting 11 for 12 from three-point range.

The UCLA Bruins brought the lead back to single digits with just under two and a half minutes left in the third quarter, but Hebard answered to push the lead back to 10 points. Satou Sabally made her presence felt in the 4th Quarter.

UCLA would tie the game with 4:12 remaining as back to back three-point attempts by Satou Sabally did not fall. The Bruins were on a 9-0 run as Oregon called a timeout. UCLA continued the run to take a 90-87 lead as Maite Cazorla hit the back end of the basket hard and went down. She remained on the floor for several minute before being helped off.

The Bruins came back from down 18 to tie the game at 90 sending the game to overtime, a place that Oregon had been earlier this week in their win over USC Friday.

Oregon took an early lead in Overtime with Sabrina Ionescu taking charge getting a call on UCLA’s end of the floor and adding a field goal. Monique Billings added a bucket before a Bruins timeout with Oregon leading 94-92.

With 24 seconds left Sabina Ionescu hit a basket bringing the crowd of over 7000 to their feet. Oregon had a four-point lead 98-94. The Ducks finished the game on a 7-0 run to beat UCLA 101-94. Sabrina Ionescu and Ruthy Hebard finished with double-doubles.

The Oregon Ducks had three players with 20+ point scoring with Satou Sabally, Maite Cazorla, and Sabrina Ionescu leading the way.
