My favorite player on the offensive side of the ball heading into the season has to be CJ Verdell and I’m not exactly sure why he’s not getting more national attention.

Verdell is one of the best running backs that no one is talking about and after the lackluster season he had in 2020, it makes sense as to why he’s being overlooked. He rushed for 285 yards and three touchdowns while Travis Dye led the way with 443 yards and a score on 6.9 yards per rush. He was the RB2 all year and that caused him to lose some traction nationally.

Now he’s back on top of the depth chart and has some lofty goals for himself, including rushing for over 2,000 yards as a junior and leading the Pac-12.

A backfield of Dye and Verdell is going to cause some major problems for the rest of the conference but I think the latter is going to have a first-team All-Pac-12 type of campaign.

Heck, I think Verdell is good enough to be an All-American. Last year was an anomaly, but there’s a reason he rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2018 and 2019. This kid has the juice.
