Oregon men's basketball head coach Dana Altman is one step closer to securing one of the top prospects in the class of 2025. On Thursday, four-star center Mouhamed Sylla included the Ducks in his final three schools under consideration.
Sylla is the No. 1 big man in the class and the No. 29 overall athlete in the class, according to 247Sports. The prospect out of Arizona, who is originally from Mexico, included the Arkansas Razorbacks and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets alongside the Ducks.
Despite Oregon being one of the programs closer to home for Sylla, On3 (a recruiting site) gave the Ducks just a 16 percent chance at landing the commitment from the big man.
As Duck fans love to say, Altman aligns Rubik's Cubes – whether it's putting together a March Madness run with an injury-riddled team or surprising the nation with a transfer portal or prospect's commitment – and maybe Sylla will be the latest Rubik's Cube to align.
At 6-foot-10 and 240 pounds, Sylla already has the build of a collegiate center. For reference, Oregon's current starting big man, Nate Bittle, is 7-foot-0 and just 220 pounds.
The Ducks, and their fans, will have to wait to see if Sylla narrows his search any further and if he decides to bring his talents to Eugene. The early signing period was Nov. 13-20, 2024 and the regular signing period is set for April 16 through May 21, 2025.
In the meantime, Oregon is flying towards Big Ten play as the Ducks play Weber State in their final non-conference game of the regular season on Dec. 29 and prepare to face the Illinois Fighting Illini in Big Ten play on Jan. 2, 2025.
