Dan Lanning has yet to confirm that expected starting quarterback Dante Moore will take over the QB1 role for the Oregon Ducks next season. However, as spring practices unfold and Moore continues to shine brightly, the odds are looking to be more and Moore in Moore's favor.
Yet, a surprise quarterback in the transfer portal has captured the attention of the nation, and it isn't entirely impossible that he lands with the Ducks.
Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava entered the transfer portal following an onslaught of NIL disputes with the Volunteers. He played just one full season for the Vols after utilizing his redshirt season during his first year at Tennessee.
Recently, Vegas released the odds for Iamaleava's next team, and none other than Oregon was included on the list. Don't worry, this doesn't necessarily mean head coach Dan Lanning has even entertained the thought, but it should pique your interest.
Current Vegas odds for Nico Iamaleava's next team
- UCLA Bruins (+200)
- North Carolina Tar Heels (+250)
- USC Trojans (+300)
- Texas Tech Red Raiders (+500)
- Colorado Buffaloes (+600)
- Arizona State Sun Devils (+700)
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+900)
- Maryland Terrapins (11/1)
- Oregon Ducks (12/1)
- California Golden Bears (16/1)
- Syracuse Orange (20/1)
The Ducks are relatively far down the list at No. 9, ahead of only Cal and Syracuse. However, Lanning has done a master-class job of recruiting transfer quarterbacks over the last few years, from Moore to Dillon Gabriel to Bo Nix.
Nico Iamaleava 2024-25 season stats
- 213 completions (63.8 percent)
- 2,616 passing yards
- 19 passing touchdowns
- 5 interceptions
- 109 carries
- 358 rushing yards
- 3 rushing touchdowns
While leading the Volunteers to the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoffs, Iamaleava had a fairly respectable season. However, his abysmal performance against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the first round of the CFP made him significantly less desirable in the portal.
Nonetheless, Iamaleava is the No. 1 athlete currently available in the transfer portal and will most likely have quite a few choices to choose from for his next team.
