Dan Lanning is leaning into his 'strength in numbers' style of football for Week 1

At halftime, the Oregon Ducks led the Montana State Bobcats by more than five touchdowns, but head coach Dan Lanning wanted even more from his team.

And just like that, Oregon football had returned to Autzen Stadium and in a fashion that Duck fans had quickly grown accustomed to, their team started the season on fire.

By the end of the first quarter, Oregon was already up 17-0 and had utilized four different players to score: running back Jayden Limar, quarterback Dante Moore, tight end Kenyon Sadiq, and kicker Atticus Sappington.

However, with just a three-score difference in front of him, Ducks head coach Dan Lanning wanted even more from his team.

โ€œEvery play is an individual, but every guy is out there doing his job," Lanning said. "Eventually, theyโ€™re gonna take a shot downfield, we gotta be ready for that shot when it comes.โ€

In the second quarter, Lanning refused to take his foot off the gas and his players followed suit, putting 21 more points on the board and holding the Montana State Bobcats to just three points in 30 minutes.

Moore, who finally got his first game as starter for the Ducks, threw 13 completions for 135 yards and two passing touchdowns (one to Sadiq and one to transfer wide receiver Malik Benson). Meanwhile, the running back room combined for a resounding 133 yards and three touchdowns in the first half.

Star fullback Noah Whittington was back to his usual intensity, earning 68 yards and a touchdown. Limar earned 20 yards, including his touchdown in the first quarter. Even freshman running back Jordon Davison earned a touchdown.

When Oregon got the ball back with just 56 seconds left until halftime, it was the exact situation Lanning wanted to put his quarterback in:

"It's good for us to be able to get a two-minute drill," Lanning said. "The guys operated really smoothly. I think Dante [Moore] is making really good decisions out there."

In the first half, Oregon had five different players find the end zone with the ball in their hands, and that is the type of ball that Lanning wants to play with this squad.

"Strength in numbers, we've got a lot of guys that can play winning football. We said that coming in, and we saw that, Lanning said."
