Despite the Ducks staying at No. 1, the CFP Committee Chair never mentioned Oregon
By Sam Fariss
The Oregon Ducks are still the No. 1 team in the nation. Whether it's the AP Top 25 Poll or the College Football Playoff rankings, there has been no beating the Ducks so far this season.
However, after the latest round of CFP rankings were released, the second of the season, the College Football Playoff Committee Chair, Warde Manuel, didn't mention Oregon at all.
Members of the media and Manuel tossed around questions about teams like the Texas Longhorns, who rose to No. 3, and the Alabama Crimson Tide, who is barely clinging to a top-12 spot. Manuel even discussed the inclusion of teams like Tulane, SMU, and Army, but the Ducks went entirely unmentioned.
In fact, almost every question (and subsequent answer) focused on the SEC and ACC teams that either had big wins or shocking losses in Week 11. From Georgia to Miami, people were curious to learn what Manuel thought of the formerly top-five teams that were barely holding onto their place in the Playoffs.
"Well, we judge them based on how they play, who they play in their season, but obviously, yes,
both Georgia and Miami lost ahead of them," Manuel said about Texas moving up after Georgia and Miami's losses. "So part of where they landed at 3 was a combination of their play but also who lost ahead of them and how we looked at the entirety of ranking the top 25."
No, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning doesn't care about the rankings or the opinions of others and, yes, it is really incredible to see the Ducks hold onto the top spot in the country. However, it would be highly interesting to learn more about what the CFP Committee thinks of the Ducks.
