Do the Oregon Ducks have a good resume?

Oregon's best win was Penn State...what is it now?

After an ugly win against the Wisconsin Badgers, the Oregon Ducks are officially 7-1, ranked No. 6 in the AP Top 25. After losing to No. 2 Indiana, it has been hard to put a finger on who this Ducks team is. At one point in time, beating Penn State looked like the best win in college football. Now, what does Oregon really have on its resume?

Currently, the only ranked team the Ducks have played is Indiana. The result of that matchup was an embarrassing 30-20 loss at home. Since Oregon played Penn State, the Nittany Lions have fallen off the deep end, standing at 3-4. After firing long-time head coach James Franklin, Penn State has not looked any better.

Without a ranked win, Oregon needs to beat teams that are worse than them by a significant margin, more specifically, conference opponents. Unfortunately, they have not done that. When the Ducks played Northwestern, it seemed like they sleepwalked through most of the game, despite winning 34-14. Last week, despite poor weather conditions, Oregon failed to dominate a then 2-5 Wisconsin. These are games that Oregon has to perform strongly in to make up for not having a ranked win.

There are teams behind the Ducks who have better wins on their resume. No. 7 Ole Miss has beaten No. 18 Oklahoma, and No. 9 Vanderbilt has beaten No. 19 Missouri. Even further down, No. 13 Texas Tech has dominated both No. 24 Utah and No. 22 Houston. Now, having your only loss be to the No. 2 team in the country is one of the best losses you could have. The Ducks are a great team when they play to their potential, and that is why the AP voters value them the way they do.

As the season winds down and the Ducks hope for the playoffs, Oregon will have a chance to add to its resume and fix its issues. After the bye, Oregon will take on a 6-2 Iowa team. If they can dominate and show the country that they are still one of the best teams in college football, it will, without a doubt, be their best win this season. Later down the line, Oregon will face a solid 6-2 Washington team and the No. 23 USC Trojans. If they win these games, the Ducks' resume for the playoff committee will be strong.
