Ducks drop back to No. 3 behind Mario Cristobal's Miami, host No. 7 Indiana Saturday

A week later Oregon's win over Penn State in the White Out looks like a diminished accomplishment. AP voters pointed their finger at MIami and Ohio State instead.

AP voters released their Week 7 Poll Sunday morning, dropping Oregon behind new No. 2 Miami after Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes hung on for a 28-22 win over now-unranked Florida State.

Undefeated, 5-0 Ohio State remains No. 1 after a 42-3 home win over Minnesota. The Buckeyes received 40 first-place votes, the Canes 21 and Ducks five. In the Coaches Poll Oregon edged UM for the No. 2 spot with both receiving three first-place nods.

The balloting and politicking set up a Top Ten, ESPN College GameDay matchup in Eugene on Saturday, Oregon hosting No. 7 Indiana in Autzen Stadium at 12:30 p.m. PT on CBS.

Oregon opened as a 10.5-point favorite in the battle of Heisman candidates. Behind Cal transfer quarterback Fernando Mendoza the Hoosiers score 47.8 points a game while a stingy defense has surrendered only 9.6 points a game in their 5-0 start.

Texas and Penn State fell completely out of the poll after embarrassing losses this weekend, results that seemed to hit Oregon harder than it did the defending national champion Buckeyes. Miami owns wins over No. 16 Notre Dame and No. 24 South Florida, in addition to 3-2, unranked Florida State and 2-3 Florida.

The early weeks of polling become a battle of resumes and reputations, which inevitably mean they're distorted and unreliable. Oregon can provide some clarity and recapture poll momentum with a decisive performance against upset-minded Curt Cignetti and IU.

Opinions matter way less than results. The schedule is the schedule, and all a team can do is play it and focus on improving. Another wild day of upsets proves anybody can beat anybody. Preseason national championship favorites the Longhorns, Nittany Lions and Clemson have all fallen completely out of the poll and contention.

The Ducks don't have another opponent currently ranked in the Top 25 after the showdown with the Hoosiers, although USC and Washington remain among "others receiving votes" at 4-1.

Reputations win nothing. The objective remains going 1-0 this week, letting polls take care of themselves.
