A week after a sensational diving touchdown catch against San Francisco that had fans chanting, "MVP! MVP!" Tez Johnson hit every button on the joystick scoring on a 22-yard screen pass from Baker Mayfield in the Buccaneers' 24-9 loss to Detroit on Monday Night Football.
The MVP chants were for Mayfield, however. Johnson got a lot of ribbing from his teammates for not realizing that.
Even so, he weaved through defenders and made a spin move at the goal line to get the Bucs within 14-9 in the third quarter. Jahmyr Gibbs' five-yard touchdown run with 4:39 to go in the fourth put the game out of reach.
Johnson, Oregon's all-time leader in receptions for a season with 86 in 2023 from brother Bo Nix, caught four passes in the loss to the Lions for 58 yards. In his rookie season in the NFL the 5-10, 165-pound jitterbug has caught 19 now, for 170 yards.
I cannot believe Tez Johnson was a 7th round pick because of his speed in shorts and a T-shirt pic.twitter.com/PMZURqx27b

Despite his size and a disappointing 4.51 time in the 40 at the NFL combine, he's proving that he belongs in The League. After his hurdling, tackle-shedding score in the Motor City he found a sideline camera and exclaimed, "This is my (expletive) Johnson. "(Expletive) is ya'll talking about! I do this (expletive.)"
It's not bragging if you can back it up. It was a great weekend for the Nix family as Bo highlighted the NFL weekend with a 33-point comeback in the fourth quarter in a win over the Giants.
