Oregon football captured the No. 1 overall spot in the first CFP rankings on Tuesday night, slotting in just ahead of No. 2 Ohio State who the Ducks beat a few weeks ago and No. 3 Georgia.

Behind those three were No. 4 Miami and No. 5 Texas.

But the College Football Playoff is set up so the top four seeds are from the four power conference champions. Oregon is the No. 1 overall seed and while Ohio State is technically the No. 2 seed, it would be Georgia in that spot followed by Miami and BYU. Those are the projected Power Four champions and they each get a first-round bye.

So in this scenario, Oregon would face the winner of the No. 8 vs. No. 9 seed game between Tennessee and Indiana, respectively. The Ducks would then face the winner of BYU vs. Ohio State/Boise State. That could set up a semifinal rematch with Ohio State, but I think this is going to set up as if Ohio State or Oregon get the playoff's No. 1 seed and the other is No. 5 or No. 6. That's because these two teams will likely rematch in the Big Ten title game.

This first playoff ranking essentially sets up a No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown in the Big Ten title game for the top spot in the College Football Playoff.

The loser of that game will be around the 5-6 spot and there's a good chance they'd meet for a third time in that scenario because, honestly, these are the best two teams in college football right now.

The playoff's No. 1 seed will be from the Big Ten this year.
