The recruiting train continued for head coach Dan Lanning and the No. 1 Ducks as five-star quarterback prospect and current California Golden Bears commit Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele included Oregon in his final two schools ahead of his Signing Day.
Despite committing to the Bears on July 8 of this year, Sagapolutele visited the Oregon campus at the end of October, when the Ducks hosted and defeated the then-No. 20 Illinois Fighting Illini.
Sagapolutele also visited the Georgia Bulldogs just a few weeks later, despite showing minimal to no interest in the SEC program.
According to 247Sports, Sagapolutele has a "cool" level of interest in the Ducks, even after it was reported (by On3) that Oregon was one of just two schools that remained under consideration by the five-star quarterback.
During the 2023 season (his junior year), Sagapolutele amassed an astounding 268 completions for 3,757 yards through the air and 37 touchdowns. The one area of concern for his game is his interception count. Over his sophomore and junior seasons, Sagapolutele had a combined 25 interceptions.
His ground game also isn't the most impressive stat in the books. While he improved on his -107 rushing yards in 2022 to earn 29 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns last year, he was still far from a dual-threat quarterback like Oregon has grown used to due to Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel.
Sagapolutele had another visit to Georgia scheduled ahead of his final decision but since announcing that he was down to just Oregon and Cal, the second visit with the Bulldogs was canceled. National Signing Day, for the class of 2025, is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2025.
