Given how well the move to hire Dan Lanning has worked out for Oregon, it's been hard for Ducks fans to feel ill will toward former head coach Mario Cristobal. Both programs have had great recent success, and the fact that Cristobal took the job at his alma mater rather than claiming he took a better job limited the harsh feelings.

As of late, Mario Cristobal is starting to become a major thorn in the Ducks' side, especially on the recruiting trail. Currently, Oregon is doing everything it can to try to keep one of its top commits from flipping his pledge to Cristobal and the Canes.

Elite CB Ai'King Hall is suddenly trending away from Oregon and toward Miami

In April, when Dan Lanning and his staff dipped into Dothan, Alabama to land elite cornerback recruit Ai'King Hall, it was one of the biggest wins in this cycle. Given how well the Crimson Tide and Auburn recruit their home state, it was always going to be hard for the Ducks to hang on. What most didn't see coming was Mario Cristobal and Miami becoming the biggest threat for Hall.

On Sunday, Rivals' Chad Simmons placed his expert prediction for Miami and Mario Cristobal to flip cornerback commit Ai'King Hall away from the Ducks.

Given some of the recent news on the recruiting trail, losing Ai'King Hall to Miami would be a major blow for the Ducks. The Canes just managed to flip 5-star cornerback recruit Donte Wright away from Georgia as the Ducks were pushing hard to add Wright to this class. Losing a top target as well as a commitment in the same stretch would send the staff back to the drawing board for defensive back recruits.

According to Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, Ai'King Hall is a 4-star recruit ranked as the 74th best player in the country, the 11th ranked cornerback in the class, and the top player out of Alabama.

The Ducks had been off to a nice start building up this defensive back class, but losing Hall would be a significant blow. Aside from Hall, Oregon holds a commitment from top-100 recruit Semaj Stanford at safety as well as the state of Oregon's best player, cornerback Josiah Molden.

If Oregon does indeed end up losing Ai'King Hall from this class, it'll make several other cornerback recruits an even bigger priority. 5-star Hayden Strepp is seemingly the top priority at the position heading into his official visits as he brings an exciting frame and skill set for the Ducks to work with.

Aside from Strepp, the rest of Oregon's board at the position is a little unclear, but that could quickly change. Losing Hall would likely lead to Oregon looking at some of the other players they targeted that committed elsewhere to try and pull off a flip of their own as the top cornerbacks have quickly committed in this cycle.

For now, Oregon fans will all wait and hope that the Ducks can hold off Cristobal as Ai'King Hall is certainly a player you'd like to hang onto.
