Dan Lanning is starting to roll in the winter transfer portal. On Sunday afternoon, the Oregon head coach received his second transfer commitment of the postseason from yet another Big Ten program. Junior cornerback Theran Johnson, a former Northwestern Wildcat, announced he was heading to Eugene after three seasons with Northwestern.

Johnson, who was a three-star prospect coming out of high school in 2021 and is currently a three-star transfer, is a redshirt junior – maintaining just one season of eligibility as he joins the Ducks.

Over his three years for the Northwestern Wildcats, Johnson built a fairly impressive resume and his talents should nicely compliment the already highly-skilled Oregon secondary.

Theran Johnson career stats at Northwestern

  • 103 total tackles (74 total, 29 assisted)
  • 18 pass deflections
  • 3 interceptions (returned for 85 total yards)
  • 1 pick-six

Alongside Johnson in the transfer portal is former Purdue Boilermaker and the No. 1 safety in the winter portal, Dillon Thieneman. Thieneman spent two years at Purdue before entering his name in the portal earlier this season. Thieneman committed to the Ducks just one day ahead of Johnson.

So far, just three Ducks have entered the portal – which opened on Dec. 9 and will close on Dec. 28 – including redshirt freshman Tyler Turner as well as true freshmen Jaxson Jones and Jac'Qawn McRoy. Head coach Dan Lanning and the Ducks have the second-highest-rated recruiting class entering their program in 2025 and the No. 1 class in the nation for their 2026 squad.

The No. 1 Oregon Ducks are set to play in the Rose Bowl Game as their quarterfinal matchup in the College Football Playoffs on Jan. 1 at 2 p.m. PT on ESPN.
