Former Oregon backup quarterback Ty Thompson is in the transfer portal again
By Sam Fariss
Ty Thompson played for the Oregon Ducks for three seasons... as the backup quarterback – which didn't sit quite right with the former five-star recruit. So, Thompson entered the transfer portal and landed at Tulane ahead of the 2024 season.
However, after just one season with the Green Wave, Thompson has once again entered his name in the transfer portal.
At Oregon, Thompson completed just 42 passes over three years for 456 yards (10.9 yards per completion), 6 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions for the Ducks. He ran for an additional 56 yards and zero touchdowns while at Oregon.
For Tulane in 2024, Thompson completed just 6 passes for 74 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. However, he ran the ball 40 times for 243 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns. Despite his impressive running skills, Thompson once again found himself as a backup quarterback while at Tulane, playing behind starting QB Darian Mensah throughout the season.
Coming out of high school in 2021, Thompson was a five-star prospect with offers from all across the country (from Oregon to Duke to Arizona to Iowa State). Despite his highly-rated player profile in high school, Thompson has struggled to find his footing at the collegiate level.
At Oregon, Thompson played behind star quarterbacks Bo Nix and Anthony Brown. The now veteran quarterback has yet to find a starting role, despite transferring to Tulane in hopes of becoming the starting QB for the Green Wave.
Now, as Thompson finds himself in the transfer portal once again, the former Duck backup quarterback continues his journey to becoming a collegiate starting quarterback.
