Former Oregon DT DeForest Buckner makes NFL teammate pay up on Ohio State game bet
By Sam Fariss
Former Oregon defensive tackle DeForest Buckner is still rocking with his Ducks. At an Indianapolis Colts' media day, Buckner burst through the doors with none other than the Oregon Ducks' mascot... almost.
Buckner marched a look-a-like of The Duck up to the podium and revealed that it was actually his own Colts teammate, Tyquan Lewis. The two NFL teammates had supposedly made a bet on the Oregon-Ohio State game, Buckner siding with his Ducks and Lewis siding with his alma mater, the Buckeyes.
When Oregon walked away from the top-three matchup victorious, Lewis' fate was sealed: he would have to wear an Oregon Ducks costume to the presser.
Buckner played for Oregon from 2012 until 2016 when he was selected seventh overall in the NFL Draft. He spent his first four seasons in the league with the San Francisco 49ers and has been with the Colts since 2020.
While with the Ducks, Buckner was named a first-team All-American (2015), the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year (2015), a first-team All-Pac-12 member (2015), and a second-team -All-Pac-12 member (2014).
Buckner helped lead the Oregon defense to the College Football Playoffs at the end of the 2014 season and the Alamo Bowl at the end of the 2015 and 2013 seasons. At the end of his four-year career in Eugene, Buckner had amassed 224 total tackles, 18 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. He even scored a 2-point conversion for the Ducks in 2014.
Lewis played for Ohio State from 2013 until 2017 and was selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Colts, the 64th overall pick.
