Former Oregon quarterback Bo Nix has made his case for the NFL Rookie of the Year
By Sam Fariss
Bo Nix already made sure that his name would never be forgotten when he set the NCAA career completion percentage record during his final season with the Oregon Ducks in 2023. However, Bo Nix has never been one to settle.
After struggling while on the Auburn Tigers' roster and then excelling with the Ducks, Nix was taken in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft by Denver. After just a few weeks of practice, the former Oregon star was named the newest QB1 for the Broncos.
Since taking his first snap, Nix hasn't been able to lead the Broncos to a win every week but he has been seemingly unstoppable as an individual player.
Bo Nix rookie stats through Week 10
- 206 completions
- 63.6 completion percentage
- 1,968 passing yards
- 10 passing touchdowns
- 6 interceptions
- 61 carries
- 290 rushing yards
- 4 rushing touchdowns
- 1 fumble
- 1 reception
- 2 receiving yards
- 1 receiving touchdown
Amongst other rookies – including quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends – Nix leads the group in passing touchdowns, rushing touchdowns, and total touchdowns so far this season.
Nix isn't the only former Oregon quarterback making a splash in the league. Fifth-year starting quarterback Justin Herbert has been lighting up the league for the Los Angeles Chargers, along with new head coach Jim Harbaugh.
The Chargers have gone 6-3 to start the season and Herbert recently set the record for the most completions in NFL history through a player's first five seasons.
Through his first five seasons, Herbert has thrown 1,772 completions for 19,112 yards and 125 touchdowns through the air. He also has 1,028 rushing yards for an additional 12 touchdowns. Not to mention, he's on an eight-week streak without an interception – the longest in Charger history.
