Johntay Cook should transfer to Oregon after leaving the Texas football program

Wide receiver Johntay Cook left the Texas Longhorns football program on Thursday after minimal production through eight games. He should be an Oregon Duck next.

The former blue-chip prospect is done with the Texas Longhorns. After a season and a half on the Horns' sidelines, Johntay Cook has parted ways with the SEC football program. So, where will he head next?

Well, Eugene doesn't sound like too bad of a landing spot right now, especially with the Oregon Ducks ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation.

Currently, the Ducks' roster is filled to the brim with elite wideouts from all over the country. However, star receivers Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden are seniors and are looking toward a hopeful future in the NFL.

Sure, Oregon will still have Gary Bryant Jr., Evan Stewart, Justius Lowe, and more if they all choose to stick around but wouldn't a top-tier transfer be the cherry on top of an elite receiving corps?

As Lowe, Stewart, and Bryant possibly step into leadership roles next season, a less-experienced player like Cook could perfectly fill their roles as WR4 or WR5 on the Ducks' depth chart. Not to mention, while quarterback Dillon Gabriel won't be with Oregon next season, his understudy Dante Moore will be ready to take over the program.

Over his year and a half with Texas, Cook saw 16 receptions for 273 yards (just under 17.1 yards per catch) and two touchdowns. His ability to elongate players and earn yards after the catch is exactly what Oregon will lose with the departure of Johnson at the end of the season.

The specific reasons behind Cook's departure from Texas have yet to be released and if there are behavioral issues, obviously head coach Dan Lanning and offensive coordinator Will Stein need to tread lightly when it comes to recruiting the former Longhorn. However, a five-star recruit sure would fit nicely in the Oregon program.
