A topic like the Transfer Portal can create mixed emotions for a fanbase as it provides excitement, but it can also bring crushing blows to a roster. For the Oregon football program, the Transfer Portal is a reason to be excited as the Ducks spend big, but that's not the case in every sport. As the Ducks receive a lesser revenue share from the Big Ten after joining, spending money on other sports is harder until Oregon receives a full share.
This week has been crushing to say the least for Mark Wasikowski and every fan of the Oregon Baseball team. First to go was freshman phenom Angel Laya who entered the Transfer Portal on Monday, and Junior Lauaki followed later in the week. After losing two key pieces, it appears the hits will keep coming.
Oregon Baseball loses star catcher Burke-Lee Mabeus to Transfer Portal
On Thursday, the latest Oregon Baseball star to break the hearts of the Ducks' fans was catcher Burke-Lee Mabeus.
PORTAL NEWS: @OregonBaseball sophomore catcher Burke-Lee Mabeus is entering the Transfer Portal, I’m told. Mabeus finished the 2026 campaign with a .286 average, 13 doubles, 8 homers and 31 RBIs.

If Oregon is losing pieces like Angel Laya and Junior Lauaki to the Transfer Portal, it's clear the funding on the NIL front isn't there which makes it easy to believe this is nowhere near the end of the bad news.
Burke-Lee Mabeus finished the season at the plate with a .286 batting average with 8 home runs and 31 RBIs. Where Mabeus was at his best was behind the plate as one of the best pitch framers and defensive catchers in the country. The Oregon pitching staff was one of the Nation's best in part due to his ability calling games behind the plate.
For Mark Wasikowski, the goal now is hoping and doing whatever he can to try and keep this from spiraling out of control. There are still several batters and pitchers who could be among the Nation's best transfers that need to remain in Eugene if the Ducks are going to push for a trip to Omaha next season.
The offseason will be a major disappointment to the fanbase as this could've been a point where the Ducks added to what could be a championship core. Instead, Oregon has lost 3 of it's best players to the portal thus far, and it's hard to believe that the roster will be anywhere near as talented as the group that made it to the Austin Super Regional this past season.
