This Summer on the recruiting trail has been unique for the Oregon Ducks compared to most recruiting cycles. While Oregon came into Sunday with 4 commitments from their 3 official visit weekends, everyone was waiting for Dan Lanning to go out and make the big splash everyone is used to seeing.

On Tuesday, that major splash arrived as wide receiver Dakota Guerrant decided to announce his commitment on The Pat McAfee Show. When the decision arrived, Dakota Guerrant picked Oregon marking a major win for Dan Lanning as he was clearly the Ducks top priority.

Dakota Guerrant reveals Oregon had the lead before his recruitment started

After announcing he was committing to Oregon on The Pat McAfee Show, Dakota Guerrant revealed why Oregon was the choice in the end. It turns out that Oregon had the advantage over Michigan before the Ducks likely even knew it.

"This was always my dream school growing up. Then they started recruiting, it felt like family from the start. I just kept building things with them, and how they're producing, things like that, I've kind of seen myself there from the start."
Dakota Guerrant

Hearing that Dakota Guerrant grew up wanting to attend Oregon is great news as he truly wants to be in Eugene. Guerrant will arrive on campus ready to make an impact as he revealed he will enroll early after his Senior season, and he should get the Ducks' standards.

According to Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, Dakota Guerrant is the 38th ranked player in the country, the 7th ranked wide receiver in the class, and the top player out of the state of Michigan. As a top 40 recruit, Guerrant is only a few places away from being in the top 32 as a 5-star recruit, and with another dominant season he could easily earn the coveted 5th star.

From the moment Dakota Guerrant arrives on campus, he should be able to make an impact in one way or another. Guerrant will play wide receiver in Eugene, but he's shown an ability to make plays regardless of role with his ability at safety and returning kicks. Guerrant is an elite route runner with great physical tools which is the type of polish and traits that a player needs to impact the game at a young age.

The goal now is adding more elite pieces to this class around Dakota Guerrant and QB commit Will Mencl. The top priority for the duo should be pitching 5-star athlete Xavier Sabb to get on board ahead of his official visit as the trio could quickly become the building blocks for the next era of this offense.
