Oregon Ducks' campaign to 10 straight wins snapped by UCLA Bruin miracle shot
By Sam Fariss
The Oregon Ducks started their season off with a bang. Nine bangs to be exact. The Ducks won nine straight games to kick off their 2024-25 campaign and had stormed their way into the Top 25 as the No. 12 team in the country after upsetting Texas A&M and Alabama.
However, when Oregon continued Big Ten play, against a familiar foe, the Ducks had their hearts shattered and their winning streak snapped.
The Ducks hosted the UCLA Bruins on Sunday afternoon and despite leading by just one point at halftime, Oregon seemed to be in fairly dominant control of the conference matchup. As time trickled away, Oregon held a one-point lead over the Bruins and it seemed like the Ducks were about to punch in their 10th-straight win of the season.
Then, Bruins guard Dylan Andrews pulled up from deep and drained a three-point shot to put UCLA ahead by 2 points as time expired.
Just like that, the Ducks had lost. UCLA, who improved to 8-1 overall, has won two straight conference games. Oregon, who defeated USC earlier in the week, moved to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in Big Ten play.
In the loss, center Nate Bittle had a career game with 22 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double performance. Guard Keeshawn Barthelemy came off the bench to contribute an impressive 13 points and sophomore guard Jackson Shelstad earned a solid 11 points.
The Ducks shot just 42.9 percent from the field but a highly impressive 47.3 percent from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, the Bruins shot 52.2 percent from the field but just 45.2 percent from beyond the arc. Somewhat shockingly, the two teams both shot exactly 71.4 percent from the free throw line – Oregon making 10 of 14 attempts and UCLA making 5 of 7 attempts.
Oregon hosts SF Austin on Dec. 15 at Matthew Knight Arena. The game will tip off at 3 p.m. PT and be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
