Baseball blanked at Michigan State, 2-0

Fresh off a four-game sweep of No. 7 Oregon State, Oregon baseball lost 2-0 to Michigan State Friday night in East Lansing to drop to 14-8 in the Big Ten, 31-13 overall.

The Ducks wasted another stellar pitching performance by Friday night starter Grayson Grinsell, who tossed a complete-game two hitter, striking out nine with only one earned run.

At the plate Oregon managed just three hits off MSU starter Joseph Dzierwa, who also went the distance while fanning 11. The top three in the Webfoot order went a combined 0-12.

Right fielder Drew Smith had two hits for the Ducks and Ryan Cooney rapped a one-out double in the third. Dzierwa walked none; Cooney reached on an error in the 8th. That was it.

The loss jeopardizes their chances of hosting a Super Regional in the NCAA Tournament. They stand four and a half games behind conference leader Iowa, who is 20-5.

The Ducks have 8 games remaining in league play, two more with the Spartans, followed by a home stand against Washington, then a road trip to Iowa to end the slate.

Oregon football recruiting: Big decisions loom, SC surge continues

Conference rival USC strengthened their hold on the No. 1 class in 2026 football recruiting by adding a 4-star offensive tackle and a 5-star cornerback in the last two days, the latest being cornerback Elbert Hill from Akron, Ohio, a player the Ducks pursued.

Lincoln Riley's 2026 class sits at 26 commitments. No one else in colllege football has more than 14.

The Ducks have just seven committed, but cornerback Brandon Arrington announces Sunday, Jared Curtis on Monday May 5, and No. 1 offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell on May 13. Only Arrington is trending for the Ducks; Georgia leads for both Curtis and Cantwell.

Correction: In a story yesterday about international basketball prospect Dame Sarr, the writer misspelled his name Dame Carr in several paragraphs. Sarr is one of the most sought after international players for the 2025-26 season with offers from Oregon, Kansas, North Carolina and Illinois among others, a 6-6 off guard/smalll forward with a seven-foot wingspan.
