Oregon women blank Wildcats in NCAA Regional Opener
Lyndsey Grein struck out nine as Oregon cruised to a five-inning, 8-0 run-rule victory over Weber State in the opening round of the NCAA Regional at Jane Sanders Stadium Friday night.
The 16th-seeded Ducks will meet Stanford in the second round of the double-elimination, four-team regional, playing for the right to advance to softball's Sweet 16, a best-two-out-of-three series at the home park of the higher seed.
Riley McCoy and Dezianna Patmon crushed home runs in the win, and Kai Luschar stole her 103rd career base, a school record. Stefini Ma'ake smashed a two-RBI double.
The Ducks meet Stanford Saturday at 1:00 p.m. PDT in the second round, TV on ESPN2, radio on KWVA.
Baseball roars back against Iowa to gain first-place tie
At Duane Banks Field in Iowa City Duck baseball trailed 4-1 in the fourth inning and 6-2 in the fifth but got home runs from Jacob Walsh and Anson Aroz, then a four-run rally in the 7th to overtake the Hawkeyes 9-6.
Four relievers combined to throw four and two-thirds inning of scoreless baseless to spark the comeback. Ian Umlandt took the ball in the fifth inning, worked out of jam and threw two innings scoreless for the win, 6-1 on the season.
Cole Stokes struck out three and Santiago Garcia got two crucial outs in the 8th and 9th. Seth Mattox came on in the 9th with the tying run at the plate and got a pair of groundouts to third baseman Carter Garate for his seventh save.
With Saturday being the final day of the Big Ten baseball season, it's a three-way tie for first place:

Iowa 21-8
UCLA 21-8
The Ducks meet Iowa today at 10:02 a.m. PT at Banks Field, televised on the Big Ten Network, radio on the Oregon Sports Network. The Bruins host Northwestern at Jackie Robinson Stadium at 1 p.m.
Ducks strike early at the Big Ten Track Championships
Oregon’s Diana Cherotich shattered the Big Ten Championship meet record for the women’s 10,000m by over 40 seconds. She finished with a time of 32:00.48.
In the Men's 10,000 meters, the Ducks finished 2-3-4-6, led by Aiden Smith's battle with Washington's Evan Jenkins.
The Ducks' Pat Vialva got the team four points with his first throw of the season over 70 meters, 70.81, good for fifth.
