The Oregon Ducks wrapped up their second weekend of official visits on Sunday as a massive group of recruits left campus. The instant reactions felt incredibly promising as most of the prospects on campus were singing the praises of the Ducks. While the same was true of the first weekend, it only resulted in one commitment for Oregon which the staff hoped to change.

While the Ducks didn't have all the high profile 5-star targets on campus, this weekend also brought a ton of players Oregon could quickly add to this recruiting class. It quickly became apparent that the in-state target no one expected on campus would make the biggest waves.

Oregon flips in-state wide receiver Malachi Garlington after official visit

To start the month of June, in-state wide receiver recruit Malachi Garlington decided to camp with the Ducks. The decision resulted in Garlington earning a scholarship offer, officially landing on the radar of the coaching staff.

After Garlington received his offer, he quickly set up an official visit to Eugene, despite his commitment to Washington State. It didn't take long to convince the Happy Valley native to stay home as on Monday, Garlington officially flipped his commitment from the Cougars to the Ducks.

According to the Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, Garlington is a 3-star recruit ranked as the 1,527th ranked player in the country, the 196th ranked player in the class, and the 5th ranked recruit out of Oregon. The staff doesn't hand out a ton of offers to in-state recruits, but after seeing Garlington in person, it was clear that he was worthy of playing for the hometown team.

What stands out the most is Garlington's athletic profile as he'll come with a 6-foot-3 frame which will compliment some of Oregon's smaller wide receiver. While Garlington is a taller wide receiver, he makes explosive plays on screen passes, quick passes, and kick returns as an exciting athlete to develop.

Now that the Ducks have pulled off the flip, Oregon finally has a wide receiver committed in this class, and the staff will look to continue building up the group. Dakota Guerrant was on campus this weekend as well as the Ducks look to hold off in-state Michigan to land the elite playmaker. 5-star WR Xavier Sabb is another name to watch as the Ducks have emerged as the front runner for the exciting NJ native.

Dan Lanning and the staff make a habit out of getting hot in the Summer, and it appears their run is just getting started.
