Official Visit season has come to an end for the Oregon Ducks, as a recruiting dead period is now in effect across college football. Following each weekend of official visits, Oregon reeled in some massive commitments, but now that recruits are no longer taking visits, they'll start to announce decisions which could help bolster the class.
Coming into Sunday, Oregon held the Nation's 9th ranked recruiting class, and the 2nd ranked class in the Big Ten. While the ranking is more than solid, Dan Lanning has made a tradition out of signing classes ranked in the top 5, and the staff needed to pick up more wins in order to reach that point. The good news for the Ducks is that on Sunday, Oregon picked up another blue chip piece to bolster the class.
Elite TE recruit Anthony Cartwright III picks Oregon over Big Ten foes
On Sunday Afternoon, the Oregon Ducks added another impressive recruit to a loaded haul, picking up a commitment from tight end recruit Anthony Cartwright III. In landing Anthony Cartwright III, Oregon had to beat out Big Ten foes Michigan and Michigan State along with Miami.
According to Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, Anthony Cartwright III is a 4-star recruit ranked as the 351st ranked player in the country, the 18th ranked tight end in the class, and the 8th ranked player out of Michigan.
Landing Anthony Cartwright III isn’t the first time that Dan Lanning has gone into the state of Michigan and landed an elite playmaker over the Wolverines this summer. Earlier this Summer, Oregon picked up another key weapon for the future in elite wide receiver Dakota Guerrant out of Harper Woods.
The Oregon Ducks have become an elite program at developing tight ends with Terrance Ferguson and Kenyon Sadiq each being highly picked over the last two years. Jamari Johnson is already a projected 1st round pick meaning the Ducks need to continue cycling in talent to replace the yearly losses.
Cartwright III joins in-state recruit George VanSandt in this recruiting class as the future of the tight end position for the Ducks. Among the two, Cartwright is the more exciting prospect, with the ability to play out wide as a bigger wide receiver while also making plays as an in-line tight end. At 6-foot-4.5 and 235 pounds, Cartwright already has a great frame for the next level.

The good news for the Ducks is that this recruiting momentum should only continue to push this class forward. Next week, Rivals is hosting their Summer Signing Day event where the Ducks are expected to land commitments from elite cornerbacks Hayden Stepp and Tae Walden Jr.
Dan Lanning and the Ducks came into the Summer needing a flurry of big pickups in order to reel in a top 5 class. The results thus far all point toward the Ducks reaching that mark, but the staff will need to finish off some recruitments to put the finishing touches on a nearly perfect Summer on the recruiting trail.
