Oregon may just end up grateful to be out of the mix for 5-star SF Tyran Stokes

While the Oregon Ducks stayed in the chase for quite a while, they might end up more grateful than upset to have missed out on Tyran Stokes.

After months (if not years) of drawn-out buildup to his commitment, five-star small forward Tyran Stokes is officially set to announce his commitment this afternoon.

Seemingly every week, he slowly but surely took one team at a time off his list, and now, he's down to just two teams left in the running: the Kansas Jayhawks and the Kentucky Wildcats.

The last team to get crossed off his list? None other than the Oregon Ducks, who were hanging with the blue-blood programs thanks to head coach Dana Altman's recruiting prowess.

However, now that they're out of the running and can just sit back and relax, the Ducks might realize they're grateful to be done with the extensively arduous process that Stokes' recruiting journey turned into.

Yes, it obviously isn't the goal to miss out on a five-star prospect, much less one like Stokes, who is the No. 1 overall recruit in the class of 2026.

However, the way that he dragged out his recruitment process, seemingly grabbing at attention and publicity at every turn of his recruitment journey, has soured a lot of people's opinions on him as an individual, despite his on-court skills as a player.

Of course, the Jayhawks and the Wildcats haven't exactly expressed any distaste in his process as they are still in the mix to land the five-star forward. If you're curious, most recruiting experts and analysts are leaning toward him picking Kansas over Kentucky.

Stokes is set to make his announcement at 3:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. PT on Tuesday, April 28, and it will be part of ESPN's NBA Today.
