Heading into the second game of the season, the Oregon Ducks will be looking to add a Power 4 win to their resume early in the season. This weekend takes the Ducks' on the road where they'll face a new look Oklahoma State team under former North Texas head coach Eric Morris. Coming into the season, the game was billed as a potential upset spot for the Ducks, but that buzz has died down a bit.
Oklahoma State lost their season opener to Tulsa where the Cowboys' offense failed to look like the unit that was one of the most explosive in the country at North Texas. Aside from the struggles from Drew Mestemaker, Oklahoma State suffered an injury that could set the entire offense back.
Oklahoma State left tackle Jacob Sexton ruled out for the season
On Saturday, Oklahoma State lost starting left tackle Jacob Sexton for the season on the first offensive possession. The injury is absolutely brutal for Jacob Sexton who transferred in from Oklahoma where he started the season as the Sooners' left tackle where he also lost his entire season in the first game, and dealt with injury the year prior.
Against Tulsa, Desmond Magiya was first into the lineup to replace Sexton, but the Cowboys also deployed Shaun Torgeson, and Ashton Lepo at the position. The Cowboys' depth chart lists Magiya or Torgeson as the starter, meaning they'll likely rotate between the two in the game.
Oklahoma State rotating offensive tackles this week is especially troublesome for the Cowboys given the strength of the Ducks' defensive front. Oregon has the ability to rush Matayo Uiagalelei, Teitum Tuioti, and Nasir Wyatt off the edge which is a problem for most offensive lines.
The Cowboys offense struggled to find it's footing last week, scoring just 10 points against the Tulsa defense. The Ducks' defense is going to have to shutdown the Cowboys again this weekend to secure victory, and move to 2-0.
