This weekend was a busy weekend for Dan Lanning and the Oregon Football program as the Ducks hosted their first group of visitors to kick off college football's official visit season. Coming into the weekend, Oregon's recruiting class ranked as the 9th best group in the country which is solid, but would need to improve to continue Dan Lanning's streak of signing top 5 classes.

The hope coming out of every official visit weekend is to land a commitment or two while improving your standing with players deciding later in the cycle. While it took a few days to get rolling, Dan Lanning and the Ducks have officially kicked off official visit season with a bang.

Oregon lands Hawaii's top prospect LB Toa Satele

Leaving the weekend of official visits, Dan Lanning and the Ducks were predicted to land elite linebacker recruit Toa Satele by Rivals. On Wednesday, the hopes of landing Toa Satele became a reality as the elite linebacker announced his commitment to the Ducks. Dan Lanning and the Ducks needed to beat out a loaded group headlined by Notre Dame, Texas, and Cal led by former Oregon DC Tosh Lupoi.

Beating out Cal for Toa Satele is just the latest of wins for Dan Lanning over Tosh Lupoi as Oregon landed safety Malakai Taufoou. While Tosh Lupoi built up momentum on the West Coast, Dan Lanning and the Ducks are a different level of challenger.

Toa Satele comes to Oregon with NFL bloodlines as his father starred for the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors before being picked in the 2nd round by the Miami Dolphins.

According to Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, Toa Satele is a 4-star recruit ranked as the 68th ranked player in the country, the 4th ranked linebacker in the class, and the top player out of Hawaii. Satele now becomes the Ducks' 3rd highest ranked recruit behind Will Mencl and Rashad Streets, and the Ducks 4th top 100 recruit.

When you turn on Toa Satele's film, he could either end up playing inside linebacker or move to an outside linebacker role as he continues to grow and develop. Satele has the movement skills and traits to excel in coverage while bringing great instincts to the position. Add in some of Satele's skills rushing the passer and he's an exciting piece to have.

The Ducks have a loaded linebacker class as Satele joines Brandon Lockley Jr and Oregon legacy Sam Ngata. The haul may not even be complete as Oregon is making Georgia native Drew Williams a priority while leading for 4-star Brayton Feister out of Ohio.

The staff has kicked official visit season off with a bang, and no one knows where the Ducks next commitment may come from as the Ducks have commitments from players representing 12 different states.
