The NIL and Revenue Sharing era of college sports has brought a new aspect to college football as teams are tasked with balancing how they spend resources. Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have been one of the biggest winners of the new era as the program has bought into building a roster capable of winning a National Championship.
Having the resources to build a contender on a yearly basis is going to be the factor that allows the Ducks the best chance to finally bring a National Championship to Eugene. Thanks to Nike Co-Founder Phil Knight and his investments in the program, Dan Lanning has been given a great window to get the job done, making it feel like now or never.
Oregon lands among college football's top spenders for 2026
On Monday, CBS' Chris Hummer and John Talty broke down the absurd spending spree in college football, with 7 teams spending more than $40 million, including the Oregon Ducks, along with Big Ten foe Ohio State

The spending breakdown is interesting to see as 3 SEC teams, 2 Big Ten teams, an ACC team, and independent Notre Dame are crossing the threshold while the Big 12, including Texas Tech, which has spent like crazy, were shut out.
Chris Hummer and John Talty cite Phil Knight as one of the biggest reasons for Oregon's spending surge which was well known to begin with. The hope will be that the Ducks can finally deliver Knight the championship he's hoped for as he continues to pour resources into the Oregon football program.
Dante Moore is the Ducks' "Big price tag player" which was known the moment he opted to return to Oregon rather than entering the NFL Draft. While Dante Moore wanted to return to continue developing, the financial side also had to make sense for him to pass up on all the NFL had to offer, given where he was projected to be picked.
When you look at this roster, it's easy to see where all the money is going, as Oregon has a great mix of talent. The coaching staff has done a nice job of stacking elite recruiting classes, retaining talent, and supplementing the roster with stars when needed via the Transfer Portal. The important thing now is making sure to capitalize on this great roster building, as it's hard to get all the resources aligned on a yearly basis to the level the Ducks have this season.
