Oregon women's basketball guards Ari Long and Janiyah Williams sent along a friendly greeting to fans after Monday's workout, inviting them to remember that the first game of the season is just 90 days away, a home game against West Georgia on November 3.
Long is a 6-0 junior guard from Valley View High School in Moreno, California, a transfer from Washington in 2024. She hit double figures twice last season with 10 points against USC on December 7, 11 points against Maryland on February 6th, with five steals against the Trojans.
Williams is a true freshman this season, a four-star recruit and top 53 prospect from Edmond, Oklahoma, a 5-9 guard. As senior last year at Edmond High School she scored 20.5 points a game and pulled down 9.8 rebounds while leading the entire state with 16 double-doubles.
Guards Deja Kelly and Peyton Scott completed their eligibility last season, so coach Kelly Graves will be looking for these two to get out and run with the new squad. Graves added a top scorer and rebounder in Fresno State forward Mia Jacobs, 6-2 from Perth, Australia, plus scrappy point guard Astera Tuhina from Washington State, a lights-out three-point shooter from Pristina, Kosovo.
Tuhina hit 43% of her threes as a sophomore for the Cougs, 36.4 percent last year. At Fresno Jacobs scorched the West Coast Conference with 18.3 points and 10 rebounds a game.
The new edition of the Lady Webfoots looks to get back to the tenacious, open-court style Graves loves to coach, sure to be a fun team to watch.
Ari and J have some exciting news they need to share 🗓️
