The dominoes at the quarterback position have started to fall quickly, as 5 of the top 10 quarterbacks in the class have already announced commitments. The next few weeks are only going to bring more commitments ahead of the High School football season, and the good news is that Dan Lanning and the staff have Oregon right in the mix.
Trey Wright's commitment holds major stakes for Oregon
On Thursday, elite quarterback recruit Trey Wright scheduled his commitment announcement for Saturday, August 15th. The Ducks will have a hat on the table for the announcement, as will USC, Kentucky, SMU, and Arizona.

When the announcement is made and the Ducks aren't the pick, there's no reason to be alarmed or disappointed. Oregon hasn't hosted Trey Wright on a visit to this point, and he hasn't seemed like a top priority for the staff.
Where the decision has an impact on Oregon is with the hope that the predictions for Trey Wright become true. Last week, Lincoln Riley made Trey Wright USC's first offer at quarterback, and instantly the recruiting insiders predicted the Trojans would win out.
Trey Wright committing to USC would be great news for the Ducks as it would only help in Oregon's pursuit of Josiah Boyd. The California native has talked about having interest in the hometown Trojans, but if USC secures its quarterback in this cycle, it would likely take a contender out of the race.
According to Rivals' Recruiting Rankings, Josiah Boyd is the 31st ranked player in the Country, the 2nd ranked quarterback in the class, and the 3rd ranked player out of California. Oregon has already received 3 predictions to land Josiah Boyd from Rivals' insiders, making the Ducks the clear favorites.
Coming into Friday, Josiah Boyd hasn't set a commitment timeline yet, but as quarterbacks continue to fly off the board, it could speed up the timeline. The sooner that Josiah Boyd commits the better for the Ducks as the momentum is clearly in Oregon's favor, and it would mark a perfect start to the 2028 cycle.
