Oregon’s flip attempts of a 5-star Ohio State commit could be a 2-for-1 special

It seems like the Oregon Ducks are creating yet another nightmare scenario for the Ohio State Buckeyes, who quickly became their Big Ten rivals after joining the conference.

While it isn't an on-field nightmare for OSU this time around, Dan Lanning and the Ducks are doing everything they can to flip the highest-rated player in the Buckeyes' class of 2027.

David "DJ" Jacobs, the No. 1 edge rusher and No. 4 overall prospect in the class of 2027, committed to Ohio State in December of last year, picking the Buckeyes and head coach Ryan Day over a slew of elite programs, including the Georgia Bulldogs, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Miami Hurricanes.

Recently, Jacobs posted some content to his Instagram story, featuring his brother, Dawson, decked out head to toe in Oregon gear, striking fear into Buckeye fans across the country. So, maybe by targeting one brother, Lanning could poach the second out from under Day's nose.

DJ Jacobs is clearly loving Oregon after Spring Game visit

Both Jacobs brothers were just in Eugene, visiting Lanning and the Ducks over their radically successful NFL Draft weekend and always unbeatable Spring Game.

Now, despite the older brother being committed to the Buckeyes for nearly six months, it doesn't exactly seem like either of them is shying away from giving Oregon the attention it is striving for.

Lanning's class of 2027 already ranks sixth in the country, but is third in the Big Ten, trailing the USC Trojans and none other than the Buckeyes. Flipping a player like Jacobs in Oregon's direction could propel the Ducks to leapfrog Ohio State in the conference standings, if not the Trojans as well.

Dawson Jacobs is one of the top defensive line prospects in the class of 2028 and was also in attendance for Oregon's spring game. The two have also taken tandem trips to Columbus to visit the Buckeyes.

As of now, the elder Jacobs has yet to schedule or announce any official visits for this summer, but it should come as no surprise if he books return trips to both Oregon and Ohio State.
