Yesterday, the Oregon Ducks received a massive commitment from five-star prospect Will Mencl, who is the No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2027.
Mencl's commitment was the ninth of the recruiting cycle for the Ducks and head coach Dan Lanning, and it sent Oregon's class of 2027 skyrocketing up the national rankings.
Before Mencl's commitment, the Oregon recruiting class of 2027 ranked ninth in the nation (not too shabby for any program, but not quite to the caliber that the Ducks have grown used to under Lanning's leadership).
Now, the Ducks lay claim to the No. 6 class in the country, headlined by Mencl, who is the first five-star prospect to commit to Lanning from the 2027 cycle.
Will Mencl's commitment is exactly what Oregon Ducks needed
While a top-10 recruiting class is nothing to scoff at, Lanning had only earned eight commitments from the upcoming group of prospects, and while they were all blue-chip recruits, the class didn't have quite the shine that Oregon is now accustomed to.

Mencl's decision, choosing Oregon over the likes of Penn State and Auburn, propelled the recruiting class in the right direction as he joined the rest of the future Ducks in a class that could easily break into the top five with just one or two more commitments.
Oregon Ducks class of 2027 commitments
- Will Mencl, five-star quarterback
- Rashad Streets, four-star EDGE
- Ai'King Hall, four-star cornerback
- Zane Rowe, four-star defensive lineman
- CaDarius McMiller, four-star running back
- Josiah Molden, four-star cornerback
- Cam Pritchett, four-star defensive lineman
- Avery Michael, three-star offensive tackle
- Sam Ngata, three-star athlete
Of course, as the lone five-star commitment, Mencl is the highest-rated player in Oregon's class of 2027, followed closely by four-star edge rusher Rashad Streets, who also committed to the Ducks over the Penn State Nittany Lions and a slew of other programs.

Mencl's commitment is just another step in the right direction for Lanning's recruiting class, which is quickly taking shape to become yet another elite group of prospects.
