The Associated Press released their first and second-team AP All-Pro rosters on Friday, Jan. 10 ahead of the start of the NFL Playoffs. On the first-team All-Pro roster was none other than former Oregon offensive lineman Penei Sewell.

The former Duck became the highest-paid lineman in NFL history ahead of the 2024 season and the money paid off as he successfully protected quarterback Jared Goff on a consistent basis. Sewell, who was also named a first-team All-Pro in 2023, made history with his second appearance first-team offense.

With the appearance on the first-team roster, Sewell became the second-ever offensive lineman to make the first-team All-Pro twice before turning 25, joining former Cincinnati Bengals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers lineman Anthony Munoz who did so in 1981 and 1982.

Sewell has become an offensive star for the Detroit Lions after the team selected him seventh overall in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Since joining the professional league, Sewell has been named to three Pro Bowl rosters (2022, 2023, and 2024) and was most recently named the 2024 Polynesian Pro Football Player of the Year by the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame – an honor he similarly received while playing for Oregon as the 2019 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year

Sewell was not the only former Duck to make an All-Pro roster this season. Former Oregon cornerback Christian Gonzalez was named to the AP NFL Second-Team All-Pro roster after his impressive year for the New England Patriots – his first time on an All-Pro roster.

The Lions and Sewell will kick off their postseason run in the NFC Divisional Round on Jan. 18 or 19 after their first-round bye. Detroit finished the regular season with a 15-2 overall record and a 7-2 record at home.
