On fourth and 1 Davison powered through the line for an 8-yard touchdown over the left side behind blocks by World, 17-3. Oregon has gone 4-5 on fourth down, the coaches and the entire offense showing nerves of steel.
Penn State had to pick up the pace. Allar connected for 9, then Kaytron Allen slipped through the left side for 18. Tackling began to look tired. Devonte Ross beat the coverage for a 35-yard touchdown on a post, to cut the lead to 7.
With 10:30 remaining Oregon needed the offense to take control again. Penn State went 75 yards in four plays, seizing the momentum and waking up the White Out.
Runs by Moore and Limar made it third and 3. Bryant clutched a low pass for a first down. Bryant caught a hitch in heavy traffic, good for 4. With the pocket collapsing, a pass skipped away. A personal foul moved Oregon back 15, a costly loss of poise. On third and forever the Ducks settled on a quick throw and then punted.
James Ferguson-Reynolds shanked the punt, out at the 33. With 7:07 remaining the Ducks led by a touchdown, Penn State needing 67 yards for a tie.
Oregon has outgained Penn State 371-184, holding PSU to 66 yards rushing. Allar missed behind his tight end, second and 10. A second down run by Singleton stopped for one yard, by A'Mauri Washington.
An Oregon player went down as Penn State huddled on third and nine, A stop here would be enormous. A keeper by Allar gained 20, moving the ball into Oregon territory. Allar escaped the pocket to gain 8 more. Penn State reaches the Oregon 33, third and 2.
The Ducks kept Singleton short, fourth and half a yard. Jumbo Formation, Singleton just surged forward for the first down. PSU to the 27.
Allar scrambled for three. A false start pushed it back with 4:03 left, 2nd and 12. Kaytron Allen ran for 5, third and 7 at the 32. A quick toss right to Singleton made it fourth and 1 with 2:40 to play.
Pressure, a stop, a surge, a defensive play. Oregon desperately needed a stop to hang on for the win. Overtime would be a disaster for the visitors.
Off Jet Sweep Motion Allar kept for the first down, Boettcher unable to stop him. Allen took a swing pass and pushed the pile nine yards, the Oregon defense, tiring, faltering, seemingly losing their will after playing three tremendous quarters.
PSU reached the 12, a 12-play drive that had gained 50 yards, 1:47 on the clock, 2nd and 3. Allar pushed ahead near the line to gain, carrying Thieneman. Another first down, ball to the 7.
A shovel pass to Ross tied the score, scooting around the left side.
Oregon has two time outs, with 30 seconds to play, 17-17. The Nittany Lions have scored 14 unanswered points, both touchdowns by Ross.
The crowd came alive as Oregon took the field. A quick throw to Moore only gained three. A pass went incomplete to Sadiq, helped to the sideline after the play. A run gained nothing. The Ducks had to punt with four seconds to play.
