Welcome to the NFL, Bo Nix.

In what was supposed to be an exciting time for the rookie quarterback making his first career start in a road game, Nix struggled mightily against the Seattle Seahawks and had a bit of a letdown to begin his NFL career.

As to be expected.

No rookie quarterback is going to come into the NFL and dominate right away. That just doesn't happen. Even Patrick Mahomes didn't get a real shot until his second season after sitting behind Alex Smith as a rookie. First-year players just don't come in and find immediate success often.

Nix found that out the hard way in Week 1 with a 26-for-42 and 138-yard performance with two picks against the Seahawks. He did add 35 rushing yards and a score and nearly led the Broncos to a comeback against Seattle, 26-20, but it was just one of those forgettable performances for the promising rookie.

All-time great quarterbacks had forgettable first career starts as well such as Brett Favre or Peyton Manning. Heck, Manning had three touchdowns to 11 interceptions through his first four career starts. It happens. You learn from the mistakes and get better.

No elite quarterback was ever truly judged on their first career start and probably not even the first month of their NFL career, so Nix shouldn't worry too much about his performance.

Plus, Broncos head coach Sean Payton even said the line needs to do a better job of protecting Nix. It's not entirely on the rookie quarterback.

But he's going to learn from this and I can bet you that he gets better every week from here on out. This will likely be the worst showing you'll see from the former Oregon Duck all year.
