It's called the coaching carousel for a reason… Ducks to face new UCLA coach in 2024
By Sam Fariss
Chip Kelly is out of Los Angeles and heading for the Midwest. Taking the offensive coordinator position under his former quarterback Ryan Day, Kelly will not only have to face his former UCLA squad but he will have to coach at his old stomping grounds in Eugene.
With the spring practice season just around the corner, the Bruins were in a pinch and needed to name a replacement head coach rather quickly.
On Monday it was announced that ex-UCLA and former NFL running back, DeShaun Foster would take the job.
Foster had been the Bruins’ running backs coach for the past seven years and was set to head to the NFL for a career move. However, after Kelly’s departure was shared with the world, Foster decided to stick around.
He played for the Bruins in the early 2000s before heading to the NFL for a six-season stint. Foster has since spent most of his coaching career at UCLA, barring a one-year gap when he was the running backs coach for Texas Tech.
Oregon is set to play the Bruins in Pasadena on Sept. 28. The Ducks will then play the Ohio State Buckeyes in Eugene on Oct. 12, just two weeks later.
While in California, former-Bruin-turned-Duck quarterback Dante Moore will visit his old home turf, and former-Duck-turned-Bruin safety Bryan Addison will face some of his former teammates.
Moore will then play against his former head coach, Kelly, when the Ducks host the Buckeyes at Autzen Stadium.
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning is still firmly cemented in Eugene with zero plans of leaving the Ducks anytime soon.
The crossovers amongst three teams are seemingly endless and it should make for a very interesting season between the Big Ten foes.
