Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel makes 2024 Maxwell Award watch list

Oregon football's very own Dillon Gabriel is (unsurprisingly) on the Maxwell Award's 2024 watch list heading into the 2024 Oregon football season.

When the Oregon Ducks lost Bo Nix to the NFL, Dan Lanning made a huge splash as he landed Oklahoma Sooners quarterback transfer Dillon Gabriel (who previously also played for the UCF Knights). Gabriel is an incredible quarterback and so it shouldn’t shock anyone that he would make the 2024 preseason watch list for the prestigious Maxwell Award.

Of course, this is just a preseason award watch list and a ton of players are going to make these lists and headlines, but it’s still an impressive recognition that underscores the sort of potential impact many are expecting out of Gabriel this season.

He is, by far, one of college football’s elite players heading into this season. A lot is expected of him. And it’s because he’s already accomplished quite a bit.

Dillon Gabriel makes 2024 preseason watch list for Maxwell Award

Dillon Gabriel is heading into the 2024 Oregon football season with one of the most impressive resumes a transfer quarterback could possibly have. And of course that makes him a strong candidate for the Maxwell Award.

If you’re not already familiar, the Maxwell Award is presented annually to the best player in college football. It’s not as prominent as the Heisman Trophy (some of that has to do with marketing, to be completely honest), but it’s still an incredible honor.

And, when you look at his career up to this point, Gabriel has been nothing short of remarkable for the UCF Knights and the Oklahoma Sooners.

Heading into the season, here is where Gabriel is at:

  • Tied for 4th in NCAA history with 152 career total touchdowns
  • 7th in total yards with 15,925
  • 8th in passing yards with 14,865
  • 8th in passing touchdowns with 125

He has consistently been excellent. Expect more of that from Gabriel this season as Oregon Ducks OC Will Stein surrounds Gabriel with incredible talent.
