Following the tragic death of former Oregon Ducks football player Khyree Jackson, the Ducks are still mourning the loss of Jackson.

At the 2024 Big Ten Media Days, Dan Lanning, the head coach of the Oregon Ducks, took a moment to address Jackson’s death. Jackson, who recently completed his college football career with the Ducks, died in a devastating car crash.

"Also this summer, we experienced great sorrow,” Lanning noted during his opening statement at Big Ten Media Days. “Losing a player that means so much to us, had finished his career here at Oregon, losing Khyree [Jackson] in a car accident this summer, it hurt. It's one of those things you wake up to as a coach and hope to never see. I'm feeling for him and his family."

It’s clear that the loss of Jackson has impacted many in the Oregon Ducks football community and Lanning’s words reflected the close-knit nature of the Oregon football team.

But Lanning and the Ducks aren’t the only ones who are showcasing their love for Jackson in the midst of this somber moment. Lanning made that clear as he took a moment to thank the Minnesota Vikings who were stepping up to continue supporting Jackson’s family.

“I want to give a special thank you to the Minnesota Vikings and the way they've taken care of Khyree and his family, someone we want to support,” Lanning said.

Based on what Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator said when addressing media members, it sounds like the Vikings organization is fully behind Jackson’s family as everyone who knew Jackson processes and mourns.

In light of the tragedy, Lanning also made sure to emphasize the vital importance of cherishing the time he spent with Jackson. In addition to that, Lanning made it clear the importance of remembering who he was as well as what he meant to the Oregon Ducks football program.

"He's a guy I always tell myself we have to be grateful for the time we got to spend with Khyree, someone who was really tough for our team, and tough to see, a guy with such a bright future and his life being cut short," Lanning said.

A celebration of life has been planned for Jackson and it’s set to take place in Maryland on Friday, July 26.
