Texas wide receiver Johntay Cook narrows his transfer portal choices to two schools
By Sam Fariss
In November, Texas wide receiver Johntay Cook II announced that he planned to enter the transfer portal when it opened. Well, it opened today and Cook has reportedly already narrowed his search to two main schools: the Oregon Ducks and the Texas A&M Aggies.
Cook has seen minimal snaps for the Texas Longhorns since the team started conference play in its new home base, the SEC. However, the now-former Longhorn was a four-star prospect coming out of high school in 2023 and is currently regarded as a four-star transfer.
Cook played in just four games for Texas during the regular season but had eight receptions for 137 yards and 2 touchdowns through the air. Last season, his freshman year, he had eight receptions for 136 yards over seven games for the Longhorns.

Current Duck seniors Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden are set to depart the program at the end of the season βΒ more likely than not, entering the NFL Draft. So, while Oregon will still have talented wideouts Evan Stewart, Gary Bryant Jr., and Justius Lowe on the roster, Cook could make a great addition as those more veteran players step into leadership roles.
On3's Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos reported on Monday, Dec. 9 that Cook had already expressed interest in the Ducks and the Aggies.
Cook is from DeSoto, TX so the Aggies would be more of a hometown team but the Ducks are currently the No. 1 team in the nation, defending Big Ten champions, and are primed to have another meteoric year during the 2025 season.
The transfer portal opened on Dec. 9 and will close on Dec. 28 β the spring portal does not open until mid-April of 2025.
