There are some things you just can't do in sports. While there are written rules against what Traeshon Holden did to Ohio State's Davison Igbinosun, there are also unwritten rules against disrespecting opponents in the way he did.

Oregon's fourth-leading receiver had been solid all season long, but a mental mistake in the first half of Saturday's Ohio State game could lead to a longer absence than anyone had hoped for.

Following a rather routine run play on Saturday, Holden was pushed out of bounds by an Ohio State defensive back and he responded by getting close to Igbinosun's face and spitting on his visor. The penalty resulted in an ejection and 15 yards for the Ducks while they were driving.

It was clear immediately that he knew he messed up.

You just can't do this as a player, especially in a game of this magnitude when you're one of the most important weapons on the offensive side of the ball. When Evan Stewart or Tez Johnson are getting blanketed, it's up to Holden to be that third option in the receiving corps to bail Dillon Gabriel out. Removing him from the eqaution hurts the team.

But with the immediate ejection and a road game against Purdue approaching, would it be wise for Dan Lanning to put his foot down and suspend Holden for one game?

In my opinion, you have to. This is just as bad as throwing a punch and it needs to be disciplined by Lanning to show that this type of move isn't OK. Sure, he got ejected and learned his lesson, but a one-game suspension in-house for a game against a severely inferior opponent won't hurt the Ducks and it would build a strong culture.

In my opinion, Lanning has to give Holden a one-game in-house suspension.
