Underrated 3-star WR shows off his talent directly in front of Dan Lanning

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning didn't take the bye week off, and this three-star prospect from the class of 2027 proved he deserved more attention.

As the Ducks enjoyed their bye week, reveling in their big-time win over the Penn State Nittany Lions for a few more days, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning didn't take any time off.

Instead, Lanning flew back across the country to attend a high school football game and put eyes on three-star wide receiver Carter Davis, who is arguably one of the most underrated prospects in the class of 2027.

Davis, an Alabama native, has received offers from the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, Arkansas Razorbacks, LSU Tigers, and more. However, Lanning and the Oregon Ducks have yet to extend an offer to the young wideout, even with the head coach attending his mid-season game.

With Lanning on the sidelines last week, Davis showed the Ducks' leader that he deserves an offer, even from all the way across the country. He outran the entire pass coverage and perfectly brought in an over-the-shoulder pass for a 45-yard touchdown.

So far, Lanning and the Ducks have just one commitment from the class of 2027, three-star edge rusher Cameron Pritchett, who is yet another Alabama native.

Oregon landed the No. 4 class of 2025 prospects, headlined by five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore (who has already turned into a star for the Ducks), five-star cornerback Na'eem Offord, and five-star safety Trey McNutt.

As of now, the Ducks lay claim to the No. 4 class of 2026, repeating their impressive recruiting feat. The upcoming class features four five-star prospects so far, including offensive tackle Immanuel Iheanacho, safety Jett Washington, tight end Kendre' Harrison, and EDGE Anthony Jones.

While Lanning was in Alabama, the rest of his staff was busy on the recruiting trail as well. Defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi was in Thousand Oaks, CA, to keep an eye on class of 2026 five-star defensive back Davon Benjamin, who committed to Oregon in August.
