Will Mencl kicks off Elite 11 quarterback competition in impressive fashion

It's a big weekend for the Oregon Ducks on the recruiting trail as Dan Lanning and the staff look to continue their climb up the recruiting class rankings. While the coaching staff looks to continue adding top recruits to the class, Oregon's crown jewel recruit is trying to vault himself up the rankings. This weekend, Oregon QB commit Will Mencl is competing in the Elite 11 finals.

Most of the Nation's top quarterback recruits are competing at the event, meaning that a great performance can send a recruit's stock flying through the roof. While Will Mencl is a 5-star according to Rivals, this weekend is a great chance to impress the 24/7 Sports and ESPN scouts to become a composite 5-star.

Will Mencl draws rave reviews after Elite 11 Day 1

On Friday Night, Will Mencl had a solid showing in the first night of competition, leaving many impressed with his performance. Rivals ranked Will Mencl's performance as the 5th best of everyone in attendance.

24/7 Sports analyst Andrew Ivins had rave reviews for Will Mencl coming away from the start of the event.

"How about Will Mencl, the Oregon commit? I think out of all the guys we saw at one of these regionals, he made the most improvement, and he was consistent from start to finish. He made it all the way to the finals of that rail shot challenge, and he's a guy that I think has found his voice as a leader. We knew he did it as a Junior there at Chandler High School, but to see him out here, to see him be a competitor, I thought that was really important. For Dan Lanning and the Oregon Ducks, he has built one of the top quarterback rooms in all of college football, and guess what, he's got another one on the way in Will Mencl."

Where Will Mencl was the most impressive was in the rail shot throw challenge, finishing in second place in the event.

Analyst Brandyn Pokrass had high praise for Mencl's mechanics, accuracy, and arm talent.

The goal now for Will Mencl is to have another impressive showing on Saturday and continue to build up his stock. Other quarterbacks at the event are looking to make a similar rise up the rankings, and if Will Mencl doesn't flash, he could end up getting passed, rather than rising up the class rankings.

The second day of the event is formatted to look like an NFL stay Pro Day event which is pivotal. Given Will Mencl's raw arm talent, mechanics, accuracy, ability to throw off platform, and power, this should be an event where he impresses everyone in attendance, and could easily win the MVP Award for the day.
