Last season was the final one for Historic Howe Field, a place where not only the Oregon Softball team did a fair bit of winning and hosting NCAA Tournaments over the last decade, but also a place where the Oregon Baseball team started their roots many years ago. Howe is now gone the way of the bulldozer, along with the cramped tight spaces, the cement bleachers and the ancient wooden scoreboard that adorned right field. What is taking shape in its place, is something special.

The new home of Oregon Softball is Jane Sanders Stadium. It is expected to be ready in time for the upcoming Oregon Softball season and on Wednesday, the roof was put in place. Several weeks ago the dugsouts for the home and visiting teams were poured and they appeared more spacious than the ones that were there before. The amount of open space for fans to enjoy the game seems endless, from a lower bowl, to an upper deck that was not present in the previous setup. There is also another addition that will make things more entertaining. Lights. Night games used to be resereved for the NCAA Tournament with light being brought in, but now they will likely be the new norm for Oregon fans.

As a fan, this is something to be excited about. It is coming together. The weather may even have them a little ahead of schedule at the moment. The Oregon Softball Schedule for the upcoming 2016 season has yet to be announced, but I would expect to see an opening game at Jane Sanders Stadium around the first week of March. At this point we can at least hope for nice weather.
