The afternoon started with Raevyn Rogers qualifying for the Semi-Final in the 800 Meters. Another former Oregon Duck Laura Roesler just missed qualifying. The trend continued for Oregon in the Men’s 400 Meters. Michael Berry and Marcus Chambers will move on. In the Women’s 4oo Meters, Phyllis Francis won her heat.
In the final heat of the Women’s 400 Sanya Richards Ross pulled up about 3/4 of the way through her heat. Courtney Okolo took the heat to move on to the Semi Final along with Francis. She was here at Hayward just a few weeks ago and took a National Title for Texas. She is now with Nike and led the overall time from Francis by .03.
In the Shotput final, it was a battle, but Ryan Crouser took the Gold and will lead the Shotput team in Rio for the Olympics. The day ended with Galen Rupp picking up his 8th Straight Title in the 10,000 Meters and leading the team to Rio. It was a good day to be a Duck.
Day Two of the Olympic Trials will see the return of Ashton Eaton in the Decathalon, along with current U of O Athlete Mitch Modin looking to make a push for Rio, along with the Semi Finals for today’s events.
Saturday’s Coverage begins at 10:30am Pacific Time. The 2016 Track and Field Olympic Trials run through July 10th.
