The Oregon Ducks entered their first game of the season with some questions on Defense, and a few on Offense. In facing UC Davis, they answered some of those questions on Saturday afternoon. The Oregon Starters included Devon Allen and Pharoah Brown. Allen coming off quite the summer in the Rio Olympics. Brown’s comeback started with the Oregon Spring Game and would continue vs the Aggies. Both received the biggest round of applause from the Autzen Crowd.
The Defense started the game with a Quarterback sack following UC Davis starting the game with the ball. Henry Mondeux and Johnny Ragin saw the first two stops of the day for the Oregon Defense. Charles Nelson muffed the catch on the first punt return giving the ball back to UC Davis.
The Aggies would pick up a 27 yard gain to the Oregon four yard line. Two plays later Quarterback Ben Scott would run it in for a touchdown giving the Aggies a 7-0 lead.
Charles Nelson would again get the ball and get to the 27 yard line for the Ducks first Offensive possession of 2016. Oregon would see some miscues on Offense and the ball went back to UC Davis. Through two Offensive Possessions, the Oregon Offense had zero points.
UC Davis put up some fight and 14 points before the end of the third quarter making it 39-21. While it should have been a blowout, it was still not a game that Oregon would lose.
There were some questions answered on Saturday.
Dakota Prukop has an arm, he threw passes to more than a handful of players. Charles Nelson racked up several big fumbles, but also picked up some big punt and kickoff return yards that led to scores for Oregon. Troy Dye might as well throw his hat in for Defensive Player of the Year now. In his first game he was everywhere. Through three quarters he had 11 total tackles, 7 solo, and a sack.
There are also some things that need to be cleaned up.
Oregon gets back at it again next week hosting Virginia in a National Televised game at 7:30pm Pacific Time on ESPN.
